TreffryBuilt by Brooke Marine, Lowestoft in1973 for the RNLI named "RNLB Rotary Service". It is thought she was credited with saving 213 lives during her career as a lifeboat. She was originally stationed at Falmouth, where the Coxswain Toby West, won a RNLI Medal for taking the crew off a semi sub in atrocious conditions off the Lizard Point. She was later stationed at Dover for many years. The Thames Class were the first Fast Boats in the RNLI Fleet and won a deserved high reputation for their excellent sea keeping qualities. They were designed to be self righting, her sister ship, "Helmut Schroder of Dunlossit", was actually tipped end over end off Islay in 1979 and righted herself, the crew describing the righting process as "a very smooth almost gentle motion" taking about 8 Seconds.Fowey Harbour Commissioners bought her in 1998 when she was sold off by the RNLI. Her sister was sold to New Zealand (Lyttleton South Island) where she also is a Pilot Cutter. Completing her career she was retired and sold in 2006. |
